Photoszene-Festival 2023 May 12th-21st

"We love Photography in all its Glory!"
With this quote from the ANT!FOTO Manifesto by Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber, we bid farewell to the turbulent year 2021. The International Photoscene Cologne would like to thank all partners and sponsors, artists and actors of the photography scene in Cologne, cooperation partners, and especially the cultural policy of Cologne for the unanimous commitment to photography, to the photo location Cologne and thus also to the Photoscene Cologne! - This united support means a lot to us in these times and motivates us for new ideas, concepts and projects.

Next festival planned for May 2023
The international and nationwide photography scene is in a state of flux. The International Photoscene Cologne will use the year 2022 to develop and prepare future concepts for a contemporary, biennial festival for Cologne, which is then planned for May 12-21, 2023. In consultation with the Düsseldorf festival düsseldorf photo+ biennale for visual and sonic media, this will aim for an alternating rhythm that will make the Rhineland a center of photography every May.

NEXT! Festival of the Young Photo Scene in May 2022
NEXT! Festival of the Young Photoscene will enter its second round in 2022 and will take place in Cologne from May 20-22, 2022. The central exhibition WE_LOVE with the winners of the German Youth Photography Award will be shown at the Museum of Applied Arts Cologne. NEXT! is a platform for photography-enthusiastic children, teenagers and young adults that networks and informs and also offers exchange about photography with established artists* and like-minded people. The workshops, talks and activities focus on experimenting with the medium of photography and discussing relevant topics of youth culture. Works for the German Youth Photography Award can be submitted here until January 10, 2022.

Artist Meets Archive #3
Looking ahead to the Photoszene Festival 2023, the Artist Meets Archive program will also continue in 2022. The core curatorial project of the Photoszene Festival with rotating Cologne collections and archives will begin with a residency in 2022 and conclude with the resulting exhibitions in 2023. For this third edition, we are pleased to have on board, among others, the Museum of East Asian Art, the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum, the Rheinisches Bildarchiv in collaboration with the Gymnasium and Foundation Fund and the NS-Dokumentationzentrum. An academic symposium on Artist Meets Archive is planned for summer 2022.
